In Blogmas Day 7 we talked about how those with chronic illness frequently turn to heating pads and icepacks for pain relief. Today I am going to show you how to make your own Microwavable Stuffed Animal Heating Pad!

For this project you will need:
- A stuffed animal
- A seam ripper
- Rice
- thread to match the color of the stuffed animal
- a sewing needle
- essential oils (optional)
You will start by flipping the stuffed animal on its belly and seam ripping its bum:

Next you will take the stuffing out of the abdominal cavity of the stuffed animal. Make sure to leave the stuffing in the head, arms, and legs. I also leave a thin layer lining the stomach.

Once you have removed the necessary stuffing, you fill the empty cavity with rice. You can add a few drops of essential oils about half way through if you would like. Once you have the animal roughly 80% full, add another thin layer of stuffing between the rice and the stuffed animals back before sewing his bum shut again.

Once (s)he is sewn shut (s)he can be tossed in the microwave for up to 2 minutes and (s)he will be nice an toasty or (s)he can sit in the freezer for a couple of hours and (s)he will serve as a nice cooling pack.
This craft cost me $8 total. $5 for the stuffed animal and $3 for the rice. I already had the seam ripper, thread, and needle on hand. I chose not to use essential oils this time around because strong smells are currently causing me to struggle with breathing issues.
